The race for superintendent of schools got more crowded after a write-in candidate filed her intent to run for office.

Pat Wilson turned in her candidacy paperwork May 28, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.

Her competitors in the superintendent contest are incumbent Rick Surrency, who was first elected in 2016 and won his reelection bid four years later, and challenger Paul Adamczyk, a sitting county commissioner who was elected in 2020.

Although her Republican opponents will compete in the Aug. 20 primary, Wilson will not because of her write-in status. She will be on the Nov. 5 general election ballot where voters will have to write in Wilson’s name if they intend for her to be the new superintendent.

Because she is a write-in candidate, Wilson will not run under any political party.
